On Monday, October 23rd, USHCA Chairman and President Bob Holden and staff attended the “U.S.-China Sustainable Agricultural Trade Forum” organized by the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and China Chamber of Commerce (CFNA), in conjunction with the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Soybean Association.
This event marked a significant milestone in the longstanding agricultural history between the U.S. and China, demonstrated by the presence of Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng. Eleven contracts were signed between American and Chinese firms, cumulatively signifying a multibillion-dollar trade agreement for the export of agricultural products to China.
In a private meeting with His Excellency Xie Feng, Governor Holden expressed his well wishes to the Ambassador for his appointment, and made clear his desire for a continued working relationship between the United States and China.
Governor Holden had this to say during his keynote address:
“This mutually beneficial relationship around agriculture, is the fruit grown from decades of cultivation and investment by both countries. The generations before us worked hard to lay the foundation of trust and ‘win-win’ outcomes that have anchored the U.S.-China relationship over the bulk of the past 40 years. And we must, for the sake of future generations, ensure the foundation of trust and shared prosperity is not eroded. The agriculture community owes it to the broader world to set an example of win-win collaboration when forces are trying to pull us into lose-lose conflicts.”
