On January 9th and 10th, 2024, USHCA representatives attended the Forum in Honor of Jimmy Carter & the 45th Anniversary of U.S.-China Relations. The Carter Center hosted this event to commemorate the leadership and foresight of President Jimmy Carter who worked in partnership with Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping to reestablish ties between the U.S. and China in 1979.
Over the course of two days, the Forum brought together a diverse group of U.S.-China bilateral experts, addressing a myriad of crucial issues, such as national security concerns, technological competition, and trade outlooks. One highlight of the event was the participation of mayoral representatives from USHCA’s 2023 Mayors Delegation to China, who spoke to the vital role of subnational engagement in encouraging collaboration around global challenges such as climate change, disease prevention, and quality of life improvement.
The event also marked the official launch of USHCA’s 2024 Why China Matters to the Heartland Annual Report, with printed copies available to all attendees with the support of the The Carter Center.
