China is a key trading partner for Wisconsin and is the state’s largest source of imports and third largest export destination. Among the many agricultural exports from the state to China is the famed American Ginseng grown in Wisconsin. The state grows most of the American Ginseng exported to China today. Along with the rest of the US Dairy industry, Wisconsin is interested in expanding its dairy export to China given the growing demand for quality proteins there. For Chinese companies, the manufacturing base of the state is attractive for those looking to set up operations closer to their American customers. Educationally, the University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus has a rich history of exchanges with Chinese partners. It has educated many Chinese students who later became pioneers in their fields in the U.S. and China.
