Kansas has seen its exports to China steadily expand since the establishment of a sister state relationship with Henan Province in 1981.  Its total exports to China reached $1.2 billion in 2020 thanks to significant growth in agriculture exports. The state continued to push the envelope on export and sent its first containerized soybean shipment directly to Henan in 2021. Home to the “Air Capital of the World,” Wichita, Kansas is keenly interested in the Chinese aviation market, the largest in the world. Chinese Americans in Kansas are instrumental in promoting cultural and educational exchanges between their state and China. The Kansas City Chinese Association hosts many events every year to showcase the great history of Chinese-Americans in Kansas. Educational exchanges between Kansas and China range from middle school, college enrollment, and a unique partnership between Fort Hays State University and Sias University in Henan.
